Johnson's History
Our company's history began in 1880 amid the mercantile firms in downtown St. John's, NL.
Committed to changing the face of the insurance industry, Percie Johnson opened the doors to a firm that provided customers with the courtesy and consideration they deserved.
It didn't take long for the customer-centric business to take off and by the 1920s, Percie's son Arthur Johnson joined the family business. Arthur's sons Paul and Evan entered the business during the late 1940s and by the 1970s, four of the fourth generation Johnsons were working for the company.
During the 1950s, we offered the first monthly payment option available in Canada and in the mid 1960s, we created a system which enabled customers access to a complete range of benefits combined in one plan, at one place, with one payment. We continue to be recognized in the industry for our innovative products and services.
In January 1997, The Johnson Corporation became part of the worldwide
RSA organization - the oldest incorporated insurance business in the world.
As we journey forward, Percie Johnson's values of truth, faith, decency and dependability continue to guide us. Today, with the support of more than 1,400 employees across the country, we continue to honour the Johnson family values by providing the highest-quality products and services to Canadians.
